About the event
During the Nagpurkar Bhonsle rule of the city during the 18th century, outside the fortified city various lanes or olis were established by the artists, artisans and traders for commercial purposes. These were important part of the city’s commercial and functional system. One such lane housing the Chitar community is the Chitaroli in the old city of Nagpur. The chitar-oli used to be vibrant lane of artists who would be painters and sculptures preparing various artworks mainly of religious importance. Today, for various annuals festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi, Mahalaxmi, kanhoba, etc. the street inhibits various artists who are continuing the tradition of the chitars in the old lanes.
The walk involves experiencing the vibrant historic lane of chitaroli before the annual festival of Ganesh Chaturthi witnessing the preparations for the forthcoming festival. The walk concludes with relishing authentic beverage of the old neighborhood.
